Dear Member,
Following member’s agreement at the AGM, the committee are pleased to announce the details of the Goslings London International Badminton Tournament 2012.
The tournament has been moved to Sept 2012 (TBC).
We have hired the Olympic training badminton centre in Redbridge. It will be a brand new resource, opening in January 2012, with twelve courts. And we have the opportunity to play this tournament before Olympic athletes start training there next June.
The centre is part of Redbridge sports centre in Fairlop on the Central Line - 30 minutes from Holborn and 15 minutes from Stratford; 40 minutes from London City Airport and 75 minutes from Stansted Airport.
The tournament structure will be:
We are about to start publicising the tournament with emails to our contacts at the various clubs we know across UK and Europe; advertising on LGBT sports sites; and distributing flyers at EuroGames in Rotterdam this week. We anticipate 180+ participants.
We want to keep costs low to encourage visitors. We won’t have a formal registration on Friday evening – just a nominated venue where members can meet and greet our visitors. Participants will be able to confirm their attendance and download a tournament brochure a week before the tournament. We will identify hostel and cheap hotels and hope that some of our members can offer accommodation to a visitor over the weekend.
The success of the tournament will depend on our members playing a part. So we would like you to think how you might be able to contribute.
Firstly… by registering to play. Registration will be open in September and all participants will need to register through the Goslings website. You can pre-register NOW by filling in the form at the bottom of the page..
Secondly, are you in a position to host an overseas visitor? Essentially this will mean offering a bed in your home for a visiting competitor(s) during the tournament. We will put more information about what this involves on the website later with a register for interested hosts.
Thirdly, by volunteering to help the tournament committee. This could be in a number of ways before or during the tournament, including:
This is a big commitment for the club. But it’s one that responds to our member’s wishes; and the requests we have had from our friends all over Europe every time we go to a tournament.
We have no doubt that, with everyone’s enthusiasm and commitment, we can make it a memorable weekend.
Thank you,
Goslings Committee
